A proper cedar shake installation starts long before the first shake goes down. The decking has to be solid, ventilation needs to be mapped out correctly, and moisture barriers have to be in place. We’ve been installing and replacing cedar shake roofs across Fort Worth and Tarrant County since 1991, and we use premium-grade cedar (#1 or #2 grade depending on your needs and budget) with stainless steel fasteners that won’t rust out in Texas humidity.

Each shake is installed with proper spacing so the wood can expand and contract without splitting, and positioned so water sheds correctly during storms. Cedar shake repairs are different from other roofing materials. You can’t just patch a split shake and move on. The wood swells, shrinks, splits, and weathers differently than the shakes around it.
